Wk02 Rock, Paper, Scissors Concept Phase

This is my sample posting for the Rock, Paper, Scissors Concept Phase due this Thursday. Please note the name of this posting I took directly from the syllabus. Please use the naming conventions I recommend in the syllabus. Below you will find three images. The first image is of the ten thumbnails and is a required part of this posting. The second image is of the reference images I gathered and is a required part of this posting. The third image is a rough concept of my layout that I will refine for my final deliverable and is an optional part of this posting. The more work you do before Thursday's class the more I can provide feedback on and the better your final deliverable.

I took this thumbnail example from Nick Pinero. This is a very strong example of creating your thumbnails. After I inserted this image, I clicked on the image and made it large and moved it to the left.

When talking about your thumbnail, just write at least a few sentences about your thinking and mindset for creating these thumbnails. Think about the presentation I gave last week and think of those art concepts. The presentation is available on blackboard under class materials if you care to refresh your knowledge. Try to use these art and design terms to talk about your thumbnails and what was inspiring you when you were creating them. Talk about terms like composition, flow, visual elements, shape, form, negative space, how your eye flows across the composition, the information that is conveyed, etc.

I want to get to know whats going on in your mind from a visual design perspective. Think of this like a design journal...sharing your visual thoughts. I want to know which are your favorite thumbnails and why. Please remember to number your thumbnails so its easy to reference.

To the right is my reference images I compiled into one image file. I dragged them into one photoshop file, resize the file using the crop tool to make it fit the images nicely and then using the save as command I saved out a jpg file. Once I upload the image to the blog post, I clicked on the image and made it large and moved it to the right.

I picked a series of black and white graphic images. I am pretty sure I will use the abstract graphic design ones and throw away the realistic one but its there just in case I want to use it. The more the better for right now. I can always throw away those I dont like. So just give me some insight into why you picked these images and try to use design and art terms.

To the left is a rough layout version of my concept piece. This is an optional part of the assignment but its good to get ahead and start figuring out the production part of the assignment before the feedback session.

I used one of the graphics and turned it into the borders on the sides. I liked the look of the triangle element repeated over and over. Also it was the simplest of the elements and usually when creating repeatable patterns its better to go simple so as not to distract the user from the main information points of the presentation.

I used the same font on the header and the sub-titles to give a consistency to the text. I feel that font fits nicely with the graphic elements and pulls everything together. I decided to break the intro and rules sections but having them on separate sides. I think the whole composition comes together nicely and makes for a fun and interesting look.
